IAFF Local 3490

The Beacon Fire Department operates with the IAFF Local 3490. The department operates with 4 three man groups from the local. Each group consists of 3 Firefighter/EMTs. Groups start at 8AM and work to 8AM the next day for one shift, 3 days off, then they start over again. This averages out to a 42 hour work week. The 3 firefighters per shift drive two engines and one ladder to each first alarm. Also 1 firefighter will respond with one engine to all life-threatening medical calls to provide basic life support until an ambulance arrives at the scene. In an addition to this 1 firefighter will drive the rescue to all rescue calls and multiple alarm fires. This provides the city will 24/7 paid coverage.
